Basement!

Our basement is finished! It still needs light fixtures and wallpaper and furniture and stuff, but there's carpet! And paint!

We're gonna need a baby gate ASAP. Anyone got any recommendations?

yay! I wish we had a basement, they are sooo nice. This is the gate we have for our stairs :

we love it. easy enough to open when I have my hands full, but it can be adjusted to be hard for kids to get through. Small Paul can open it now, but we still have it up to slow him down, and to keep Shawn from jumping off of the last set of steps.I've gad other gates that swing open, this has been the best so far.

We actually have one very similar to that, but every time Lando jumped over it, it got weaker and weaker, until it started falling down every time, and now the walls are all messed up and the pads have come off the tension rods. We could probably fix it, but I bet Lando would still jump it and mess everything up again. We're probably going to have to get the kind that screws into the wall.

Oo, I love in the process - pictures of home improvement!

We have the first years hands free gate:

We're just borrowing it, but it's nice because you can add as many extensions as you want. We had to buy an extra extension because our hallway for the upstairs one is so wide. So it's nice that you can choose how narrow or wide you want it. The thing I love is that it's a foot pedal, so you literally don't have to use your hands. You can have your arms totally full, step on the pedal and it swings open. It's a pressure mount one, but we have the upstairs one not exactly on the stairs so that it won't be dangerous if it falls out somehow. It swings open both ways, and the older kids can open it (The 3 year old had to learn, but he got the hang of it after jumping on the pedal).

Oh I just read your comment about the pressure mount kind. Well, the pads were also falling off the one we borrowed on one end, so I just bought the replacement pad part. It's nice that it was easy enough to find.

I have one you can borrow. Or have. I bought it for my puppies, but they jump over it.
