Sully's One!
It's Sully's first birthday! I wish we were the cool kind of parents that throw awesome birthday parties, but the truth is, I didn't even remember it was Sully's birthday until after he'd gone down for a nap. I don't plan on getting him any presents either, and his cake is going to come straight out of a box and into a 13 x 9 pan. It won't even have sprinkles. Poor kid. I guess I just figure that he doesn't know the difference, so why make all the fuss? The problem is that Hanne knows the difference, so this may be the last time I get away with skipping a birthday.
I love how one-year-old Sully is so social. It seems like one day he was happy playing by himself, then the next day, he suddenly started chasing Hanne around, doing sign language, and motioning for me to sing different songs to him. Yesterday, Hanne was in her room in time out, and I noticed Sully crawling around looking for her. When I went to let Hanne out, I found Sully and Hanne laughing at each other through the crack under the door. Moments like that make me glad that they've got each other. Hanne always seemed so lonely before Sully was born.
I also love how one-year-old Sully drinks from a cup. I love not nursing. It's like after 21 months, I finally get my body back to myself. I started weaning Sully a couple of weeks ago, when he was sick and refused to drink. He'd already been through several nursing strikes, and I knew my milk supply couldn't survive another one, and there was no point in trying to get it back if I was just going to wean soon anyway. The problem was that Sully wouldn't take a bottle or sippy cup. I was paranoid that he was going to die of dehydration, so I just kept shoving the bottle back in his mouth when he didn't want it, and he eventually got the hang of it. He didn't like formula or cow's milk, so in my desperation to get him to drink, I tried vanilla soy milk, which he loved, but my sister-in-law told me that there was some controversy about whether or not it was safe, so I looked it up, and holy cow! I don't think all the stuff I read can possibly be true, or else it wouldn't be FDA approved, but just in case, I switched to cow's milk with a little vanilla creamer to sweeten it. He still doesn't drink nearly as much as he should, but his diapers are wetter than ever, so I guess my milk supply has been wimpy for a while.
I don't love that one-year-old Sully thinks he's too big for baby food. It's such a pain to feed kids fruits and veggies when they don't have molars.
I also don't love that one-year-old Sully still wakes up inconsolable in the middle of the night. I think it started out when he was teething. And since he kept teething for two months strait, it's now become habit. Boo. Our lives were so perfect before those teeth reared their spiky, little heads.
All in all, I love my little Sully. People don't know what they're missing. If they knew, they'd be lined up around the block waiting to come play with him. He's Utah's best-kept secret!

LOL
Happy Birthday Sully.
If I were in town I'd make him a volcano cake.
Happy Birthday, Sully! I totally give my kids 'big' food. Hyrum's been eating cooked carrots, thawed peas, black beans (unmashed), pasta, fresh pear sliced small, etc for a while. I don't believe in baby food, really. It's easier to make only one meal!
Happy Birthday, Sully!
'Such a cute boy! Did you knit his outfit?
No, but I love it because it is knit, even though it isn't hand-knit. It's size 6 months, but I've been putting it on him since he was tiny, and I still squish him into it because I love it so much.
I don't know...I have a pretty well-kept secret at my house, too!!
I love this!!! HB to the Sully. I agree that adding the second child is so awesome for the first. Just before I read your post, Grant said to me, "Mom! We're holding hands!!" I turned to see Grant and Henry walking around our house hand in hand. Awwww.... kids are cute- and you have TWO CUTE kids :)
I hate getting up in the middle of the night with crying kids or kids that have wet the bed. Even more, I hate waking up with a mormon hangover.
